We offer Quail eggs from birds that are fed organic diets, including organically grown dark greens and organically grown protein supplements ( meal worms!). The birds enjoy the sun, flowers, beauty and breezes of our yards.  Our birds are kept enclosed at night for their own safety.  The birds are carefully enclosed in lush protected yards. In winter our Quail are kept safe and warm in their own specially built house which has windows for the little Queens to look out over the yards and orchard from dawn till dusk. They are very pampered and adored.

The Quail have very unique needs in their diet and care. They are heavy insectivores during their summer laying/breeding season. We have to cultivate mealworms as a major component of their diet and cut back on the grains normally fed to poultry, upping the greens and bugs. We use only organic grain mixes specially formulated for our different species. The Quail need heavy protection from predators. Weighing in at only 5 to 11 ounces, they need special protection and so were given their own special built house and aviary. The tiny bird that lays the "golden" speckled egg  live like royalty here, with their own house and views to the gardens that are grown specifically for them. Kale, Chard, Beet Tops, Spinach... all for them.
Coturnix quail are known as Japanese Quail, European Common Quail, Pharaoh Quail and by many other layperson names such as Nile Quail.  Coturnix Japonica and Coturnix Coturnix are what we raise. They are not a new world upland game bird. They are an ancient breed of quail. Long ago the Japanese Quail and European Quail were probably traded and mixed,  then imported to the United States in the 1800s.
The Asian, Middle and Far Eastern peoples and cultures had used the meat and eggs as staple. They used the eggs in particular for their unique health properties.
Think of it. In ancient times the Chinese, Japanese, and most other Asiatic cultures did not have a way to measure the nutrients in these eggs. The results they found were in the health of their people in consuming them. It was known then and now, it is known using science, that Quail eggs are healthful.
Enjoy.

Our Quail Eggs

Super food with triple the nutrition of regular chicken eggs.

We are approved, licensed and permitted by the City of Durango and recognized by the Food Safety division of the local San Juan Basin Health Dept. We can offer you safe handling instructions.  Each dozen of Quail Eggs has on it's bottom side, a nutritional facts data sticker showing you the nutritional value of a Quail egg. Compare for yourself, the difference in value and percentages that these tiny beautiful eggs offer compared to a regular chicken egg. You will be amazed.
*The Dept. of Health wants us to remind you that eggs are considered a "potentially hazardous food" and should be held at 41 degrees F in order to keep them fresh and safe from bacterial growth.  The Health Dept. also wants us to remind you that eggs should be cooked until firm and not runny for complete safety.
